Police Fire at Van Ignoring Orders in Nittambuwa

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police officers opened fire on a van that allegedly ignored orders to stop in the Udammita area of Nittambuwa early this morning, authorities confirmed.

According to police, the incident occurred during a special motorcycle patrol conducted by the Gampaha Division.

Officers signaled the van to halt, but the driver reportedly attempted to flee, prompting police to discharge their firearms to bring the vehicle to a stop.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the driver and passengers were heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Three suspects, including the driver, were taken into custody.

They are residents of Lellopitiya and Ratnapura, aged 38 and 43.

Nittambuwa Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
