President Appoints Task Force To Drive Strategic Tourism Development Program

COLOMBO(News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification announcing the appointment of a Presidential Task Force to carry out the country's tourism development program.

The 28-member Task Force will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, while the Deputy Minister of Tourism will serve as Vice-Chairman.

According to the Gazette, the Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism has been appointed as the Secretary of the Task Force.

The Gazette highlights that, in line with the policy statement "New Tourism Industry – Attractive Destination," the government is giving top priority to meeting public expectations through rapid progress in tourism development.

It also notes that the government recognizes the importance of launching a well-planned and timely strategy to develop the tourism sector, which is seen as a key area for earning foreign exchange efficiently. Therefore, a Presidential Task Force has been established to drive the implementation of this tourism development program.
