COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police confirmed that search operations are continuing today (1) at the Veheragalla Reservoir in Kataragama after a cache of empty weapon magazines was discovered yesterday (30).
Acting Police Spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police Minur Senarath, said that divers have been deployed to assist in the search.
The operation follows intelligence provided by a Sri Lanka Army intelligence officer.
According to police, the discovery included 74 empty T-56 magazines, 36 empty LMG magazines, and 5 empty MPMG drums. These items were recovered from the reservoir yesterday afternoon and have since been handed over to the Gonaganara Police.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine who was responsible for dumping the weapons into the reservoir.
