COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have uncovered four SUVs that were illegally imported into the country by concealing information from Customs, according to the Central Crimes Investigations Bureau.
The discovery was made under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Ariyawansa, Director of the CCIB.
One vehicle was recovered from Kuliyapitiya, another from Melsiripura, while two more were found in Piliyandala and Akmeemana.
Investigations have revealed that the vehicles were registered using details of vehicles imported in 1995, enabling the perpetrators to bypass Customs regulations.
Police further stated that the fraud was carried out with the assistance of several officials from the Department of Motor Traffic.
Authorities have launched a probe to identify and apprehend those involved in the racket.
