COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation has announced that wearing seatbelts is now mandatory for all drivers and passengers traveling on expressways.
A grace period of three months will be provided for vehicles that do not currently have seatbelts installed, allowing time for necessary modifications.
Minister Bimal Rathnayake also noted that plans are underway to make seatbelt use mandatory for long-distance passenger buses in the near future.
