COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Prisons has confirmed that former ministers Rajitha Senaratne and Nimal Lanza have been granted permission to receive food from their homes while in remand custody.
Department spokesperson Jagath Weerasinghe stated that the approval was given following formal requests made by both individuals.
Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne is currently in remand custody until September 9, in connection with allegations of causing a financial loss exceeding Rs. 20 million to the government by awarding a sand mining project at the Kirinda fisheries harbor to a Korean company.
Nimal Lanza has been remanded until September 12, over charges related to an incident during the 2006 local government election period, where he is accused of involvement in an attack on the residence of the then Deputy Mayor of Negombo.
