3 police officers interdicted in Hemmatagama over failure to investigate sexual assault

Colombo (News 1st): A Sub Inspector and two Police Constables attached to the Hemmatagama Police Station, have been interdicted. Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunasekera said this action was taken as the officers failed to conduct proper investigations into a complaint received regarding the Sexual assault of a young girl. The girl's father had lodged a complaint with the Hemmatagama Police regarding an incident of Sexually assaulting a young girl who was returning from a SLPP political rally in Kegalle. The Police Media Spokesperson stated the officers were suspended by the Kegalle SP under instructions of the Senior DIG of the Sabaragamuwa Province.
