Child Dies After Car and Three-Wheeler Collision

COLOMBO (News 1st); A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a young child following a collision between a motor car and a three-wheeler along the Talatuoya–Ragala road in the Mailapitiya area.

Police said the accident occurred when the car attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a three-wheeler traveling in the opposite direction. 

The impact of the crash resulted in serious injuries to the occupants of the three-wheeler.

The injured included the three-wheeler driver, the driver’s spouse, and their young child, all of whom were rushed to the Hanguranketha Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, the child later succumbed to injuries.

The victim has been identified as a two-year-and-two-month-old child from Unuwinna.

Police have taken the driver of the car into custody in connection with the incident.
