COLOMBO (News1st): The preliminary investigation report regarding the controversial Grade 6 English module has been submitted to the Ministry of Education.

The investigation focused on determining how the name of an inappropriate website was included in the English educational module.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Nalaka Kaluwewa, said that the National Institute of Education (NIE) is currently conducting a separate internal inquiry.

He further noted that a formal committee will be appointed soon to identify those responsible for the incident. Meanwhile, a report has been requested from Ministry experts regarding necessary amendments to be made to the module before distribution.

Steps will be taken to release the module to students as quickly as possible based on the recommendations.

In addition, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has fast-tracked its investigation following a formal complaint lodged by the Secretary of Education.

Statements have already been recorded from several individuals, including officials of the National Institute of Education. Additionally, to facilitate the ongoing investigations, the Director General of the NIE has temporarily stepped down from her position.
