CAA Collects Nearly Rs. 50 Million in Fines Following Over 5,000 Raids

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced that fines totaling nearly Rs. 49.9 million were imposed following 5,172 market raids conducted within the first two months of 2026. 

Acting Director General Samantha Karunaratne stated that 359 offenses related to selling of rice such as hoarding of stocks and selling above the controlled price.

Approximately 450 officers have been deployed to carry out island-wide raids.

Essential commodity prices are being under constant supervision to prevent exploitation.
