Sun Positioned Directly Over Sri Lanka Today; Heat Advisory Issued to Several Provinces and Districts

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Meteorology says that the sun will be positioned directly above Sri Lanka starting today through April 15th.

Accordingly, the sun will be directly over the Dodanduwa, Rathgama, Yakkalamulla, Akuressa, Mulgirigala, Ranna, Kalametiya, and Ussangoda areas today.

The MET Department warned that the heat index, the temperature felt on the human body is expected to reach a caution level today across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, North-Western, North-Central, and Northern provinces, as well as the Monaragala district.

Thunderstorms are likely after 2:00 PM today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva, and Eastern provinces.

Fairly heavy rainfall, exceeding 50 mm, is expected in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, as well as the Polonnaruwa district.

The Department of Meteorology advised the public to take necessary precautions to mitigate any risks from possible hazards.
