COLOMBO (News 1st) - Signal jammers were installed recently at the Welikada Prison, in a bid to prevent prisoners from using mobile phones. However, this move has affected the daily operations of the adjoining Government Printer and other institutions. Government Printer Ganga Liyanage has told the Sunday Times that their mobile phone services had been disrupted as a result of the jammers installed at the prison premises. Liyanage explained that they were compelled to use landlines even when dealing with urgent communications. The department had been forced to install one anti-jammer within the department following continuous complaints by employees.
