Christians Celebrate Easter Sunday, Leaders Call for Peace and Unity

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Today marks Easter Sunday, the day Jesus Christ rose from the dead, having entered this world with the noble purpose of saving humanity from sin.

Christian devotees consider the preceding night, Holy Saturday, and midnight services were held in churches across the country to mark the occasion last night.

Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his Easter greetings, stated that he prays for peace and coexistence for all people of the world instead of wars driven by hostility.

The President emphasized that, according to the teachings of Jesus Christ, hearts should be filled with love, patience, and forgiveness, and that people should move forward together like children of one mother, setting aside differences.

Meanwhile, in her Easter Greetings, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya called for reflection not only on the significance of the occasion of Easter Sunday but also on the ongoing hardships faced by those affected by conflict in the Middle East. 

She expressed hope for a future where peace prevails through dialogue and mutual understanding rather than division and violence. 

Additionally, Prime Minister also urged people to embrace love, patience, and forgiveness, and to work together in unity to build a harmonious Sri Lanka grounded in brotherhood and lasting peace.
