Sri Lanka to Face New Zealand in Crucial Super 8 Clash Today; Special Traffic Plan in Place around RPS

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka's second match in the Super 8 round of the 2026 T20 World Cup will be held today, the match will be played against New Zealand. 

The Sri Lankan team is competing in Group 2 during the Super 8 round of the tournament.

According to the group points table, New Zealand currently holds the second position, while Sri Lanka is in fourth place after losing their first match.

Winning today's match is crucial for the Sri Lankan team to keep their hopes alive for the semi-finals.

The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM tonight at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Police have announced a special traffic plan which will be in effect for today's match of the Super 8 round of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

This traffic plan will be implemented as a large crowd of spectators is expected to attend the match, and accordingly, several roads around the stadium will remain closed until the end of the game.

The police stated that entry towards the stadium will be suspended during the match period at Vincent Perera Mawatha, the entry towards Babapulle Bridge from the Brito Babapulle Bridge junction, and entry towards the stadium from near the Babapulle Bridge. Furthermore, restrictions apply to the Sebastian Canal Road for entry towards the stadium from near the Malwatta Bridge, and at the 100-Foot Road or the Adi Seeya Paara for entry towards the stadium from the Temple Road junction. 

Additionally, entry towards the stadium from the side roads near Maligawatta Lane and entry to Temple Road from the Khettarama Road junction will also be suspended during this time.

In addition to the parking lots surrounding the R. Premadasa Stadium, facilities have been arranged at the Grandpass Mati-park Parking, Sathosa Parking, and the Sebastian Canal Parking. Police also mentioned that parking is available at Kovila Road, Apple Watta, and along both sides of the 100-Foot Road to accommodate the influx of vehicles.
