Drug Suspects To Be Produced In Court

COLOMBO(News 1st); The six suspects who were on board the vessel taken into Navy custody while transporting drugs, and brought to the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbor, are scheduled to be produced before the Aluth Kade No. 1 Court today.

This follows their handover to the Police Narcotics Bureau.

The suspects were arrested by the Navy while transporting drugs and were brought to the Dikkowita Fisheries Harbor yesterday.

A total of 323 kilograms of heroin was found on the vessel.

The Navy said the drugs were packed in 298 parcels and stored across 19 decks.

Navy Media Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath said the stock has an estimated street value of around Rs. 620 million.

The vessel was taken into custody the day before yesterday in deep waters off the southwest coast of the country.

The multi-day fishing vessel had departed from Negombo on February 2nd.
