‘Praja Shakthi’ Councils to Lead Rural Development; Implementation to Begin Next Month

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment has issued instructions that, moving forward, only development proposals approved by 'Praja Shakthi' Councils will be implemented at the village level.

Minister, Dr. Upali Pannilage, says that Members of Parliament (MPs) or officials will no longer be allowed to implement development projects at their own discretion.

The Minister further noted that over 10,000 Praja Shakthi Councils have already been established across the island. He added that the remaining 4,000 councils will be set up promptly.

Dr. Pannilage also mentioned that steps are being taken to begin the implementation of development proposals approved by these councils starting from after the 15th of next month.
