Suspect Arrested in Thelikada Family Double Murder

The suspect allegedly involved in the double murder in Akkara 13 area of Mawadavila, Thelikada in Galle has been arrested.

Police said that the killings were carried out due to a family dispute.

Following information received by the police this morning, an investigation led to the discovery of the body of a 74-year-old woman with stab wounds in the veranda of a house. 

Additionally,the body of a 34-year-old man with stab wounds on a bed in a temporary shed at the back of the house.

Another woman, found near the temporary shed with serious stab wounds, was admitted to the Karapitiya National Hospital in critical condition.

Police confirmed that the deceased are the mother of the household and her daughter's son-in-law.

The woman hospitalized with serious injuries is the daughter of the deceased elderly woman.

A 17-year-old boy who was at the house has provided a statement to the police regarding the murders.

The arrested suspect is the son-in-law of the woman’s daughter and is a former army soldier.

Police mentioned that further investigations regarding the 35-year-old suspect are underway.
