Police To Introduce Demerit Point System For Traffic Violations From Next July

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Police Say That The System of Adding Demerit Points to Driving Licenses Will Be Implemented From Next July.

DIG in charge of the Western Province Traffic Division W. P. J. Senadheera said that, through This, Driving Licenses of drivers Who commit Traffic Violations will be revoked.

He Added That This System Will Help in Creating a Group of Responsible Drivers.

Police have also been instructed to file charges of attempted murder against drivers who endanger the lives of police officers while attempting to flee after committing traffic violations.

Police further said that they will take legal action against buses, three-wheelers and other vehicles that do not remove illegal modifications containing dangerous devices, by obtaining official prohibition instructions from vehicle inspectors.
