COLOMBO (News 1st) -Eric Meyer is set to become the next United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka, after being nominated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Meyer, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, currently serves as the Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
In this role, he oversees the bureau and coordinates U.S. policy priorities across South and Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
His nomination comes following the departure of Julie Chung, who concluded her nearly four-year tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka on January 16, 2026, having served in the position since 2022.
