COLOMBO (News 1st); The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced an extension for filing income tax returns for the Year of Assessment 2024/2025, following disruptions caused by Cyclone Ditwah and severe weather conditions across Sri Lanka.
Originally, taxpayers were required to submit their returns by November 30, 2025. However, acknowledging the difficulties faced by many taxpayers and their representatives, the IRD has extended the deadline to December 31, 2025.
The department emphasized that taxpayers who submit their returns within this extended period will not face any legal consequences, including penalties, assessments, or criminal proceedings.
The IRD urges all taxpayers who have not yet filed their returns fulfill their tax obligations within this grace period granted.
