COLOMBO (News 1st); The Disaster Management Center’s latest report at 6:00 PM confirms 607 lives lost and 214 people still missing as floods and landslides ravage the island.
The calamity has swept across 25 districts, leaving 586,464 families — over 2,082,000 individuals — in crisis.
Entire communities have been uprooted. 4,164 homes lie in ruins, 67,505 partially damaged, and thousands have sought refuge in 1,211 safety centers, now sheltering 43,715 families and 152,537 people.
The deadliest blows struck in the hill country:
Kandy leads the grim tally with 232 deaths and 81 missing, alongside 1,800 homes destroyed and 13,044 damaged.
Badulla reports 83 fatalities, while Nuwara Eliya and Kurunegala mourn 89 and 61 deaths respectively.
Urban districts are also reeling: Colombo counts 310,047 affected individuals, while Gampaha tops the list with 362,664 people impacted. In Kegalle, more than 11,668 homes suffered partial damage.
