Floods, Strong Winds and Heavy Rain Hit Multiple Provinces

COLOMBO(News 1st); One person has died, and 58 people from 17 families have been affected by disasters caused by heavy rains.

The Disaster Management Center reported that 15 houses were partially damaged in the Galle, Kalutara, and Jaffna districts.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology warns that the deep-sea area of the Bay of Bengal may become very rough at times, with wind speeds reaching 55–65 km/h. Fishermen and naval personnel are urged to exercise caution while sailing.

Showers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northwestern, and Southern provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Some areas, including Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, may experience heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm.

Strong winds of 40–50 km/h are predicted in the western slopes of the Central Highlands, and in the Central, Northern, North-Central, and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
