COLOMBO (News 1st): Deputy Minister of Housing T.B. Sarath has called on the public to join hands with the government in efforts to eradicate drugs from the country.

Addressing a ceremony in Polonnaruwa, the Deputy Minister said drug trafficking in Sri Lanka has expanded into a widespread network involving politicians, elements of the armed forces, members of the police force, and organized crime syndicates.

He noted that one of the government’s foremost challenges is safeguarding the next generation from the dangers of drugs.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that this objective cannot be achieved by the government alone and urged all citizens to unite in the fight against narcotics.
