Era of Political Protection for Drug Lords Is Over, Says Handunnetti

COLOMBO (News 1st); Ending the drug epidemic is the government’s top priority, said Minister of Industries, Sunil Handunnetti, in a strongly worded statement urging nationwide cooperation.

Speaking at a public event, Minister Handunnetti emphasized that the fight against narcotics must begin at the grassroots level, with communities actively resisting the spread of drugs. He called on citizens to stop protecting drug traffickers and instead expose them, regardless of their social or political status.

He criticized past political figures for allegedly safeguarding drug networks and stressed that such an era is over. Handunnetti encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking, even anonymously, and not to wait for law enforcement to act.
