Sri Lanka Navy Foils Bird Smuggling Operation in Mannar

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy apprehended two individuals involved in an illegal bird smuggling operation near Sirithoppuwa beach in Mannar. 

The operation, conducted by the Naval Detachment of Pesalai under SLNS Gajaba of the North Central Naval Command, led to the seizure of a suspicious dinghy carrying 91 birds.

Naval personnel intercepted the vessel during a routine patrol and discovered 72 pigeons and 19 game fowls onboard. The suspects, aged 17 and 52, are residents of Pesalai and Mannar. Both were taken into custody along with the dinghy and the birds.

The apprehended individuals and the seized items were handed over to the Pesalai Police for further legal proceedings.
