COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has announced disruptions to continuous water supply in several areas due to prevailing dry weather conditions.

Deputy General Manager of the NWSDB, Wajira Thiranagama, stated that the intrusion of seawater into the Polathu Modara River has caused difficulties in extracting water from the Kananke region. As a result, areas including Weligama and Midigama are experiencing interruptions in their water supply.

To mitigate the impact of seawater intrusion, temporary salinity barriers are being constructed in the affected regions. A similar barrier has already been built to prevent seawater from entering the Kelani River.

Given the current situation, the NWSDB is urging the public to use water sparingly and responsibly until conditions improve.
