Train Services on Kelani Valley Line Restricted Following Derailment

COLOMBO (News 1st): Train operations on the Kelani Valley railway line remain restricted following a derailment near Puwakpitiya, Avissawella.

The incident occurred at around 7:05 PM yesterday when a train derailed after colliding with a small lorry that had been parked near the tracks.

The lorry’s assistant sustained minor injuries and was admitted to hospital.

The derailment caused significant damage to the railway line in the area. 

Repair and restoration activities are currently underway.

According to the Railway Control Room, train services on the Kelani Valley line are currently operating only up to Kosgama.
