Infectious Waste Units For 15 Government Hospitals

COLOMBO(News 1st); The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has started setting up infectious waste management units in 15 government hospitals.

According to the Ministry, modern incinerators will be installed at the teaching hospitals in Trincomalee, Ratnapura, and Kurunegala; district general hospitals in Embilipitiya, Avissawella, Hambantota, Mannar, and Kilinochchi; base hospitals in Rikillagaskada, Mahiyanganaya, Puttalam, Mirigama, Medirigiriya, and Welikanda; and the Nakulugamuwa District Hospital.

The incinerator at Trincomalee Teaching Hospital was officially inaugurated yesterday.

The Ministry said the unit can burn up to 162 kilograms of infectious waste per hour.

This project is funded by a donation of 503 million Japanese yen from the Japanese government.

It includes five machines with a capacity of 162 kilograms per hour and ten machines that can burn 58 kilograms per hour.
