COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Planetarium, a landmark of scientific and architectural significance built in 1965 by renowned engineer Dr. A.N.S. Kulasinghe, is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation and modernization.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal to restore the facility while preserving its distinctive architectural identity.

The decision comes in response to visible structural decay and the outdated technical infrastructure of the building, which has long served as a hub for space education and public science engagement.

The renovation will be carried out by the National Engineering Research and Development Centre (NERD), which has been entrusted with the task due to its expertise in prefabricated concrete technology.

The assignment was approved based on the consensus of the National Procurement Commission.
