Public Security Minister Vows Action on Rising Shootings

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala says that discussions are currently underway regarding the recent shootings and the steps to be taken in response to them.

The Minister noted that a special meeting was held with the heads of the Police Special Task Force and the Police to address the situation, as pecial focus has been placed on curbing criminal activities.

Meanwhile, investigations into the recent shooting and killing of Ami Upul in the Ragama Batuwatta area are ongoing, while Eight police teams have been assigned to this case.

Police stated that investigations are being carried out in the Batuwatta and Walpola areas in search of suspects invloved in the shooting.

Search operations are also underway in Kandana, Wattala, Ja-Ela, and Ragama.

Approximately 300 personnel from the police, Police Special Task Force, and the army have been deployed for the operation.
