All Suspects Arrested in Murder of Young Businessman in Marawila

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police say all suspects involved in the murder of a young businessman from the Katuneriya area in Marawila have been arrested.

According to police, four suspects including the main suspect was taken into custody. All of them were friends of the victim.

The body of the businessman was recently discovered in a ditch at a vehicle service station in the Udasirigama, Lunuwila area.

Investigations began following a complaint by the victim’s mother, who reported her son missing since the 30th of June.

Police first located a luxury cab belonging to the businessman at the residence of the main suspect in the Wennappuwa area.

Following his arrest and questioning, it was revealed that the businessman was killed with a sharp weapon during a party, after an argument broke out.

The suspects had dumped the body in a ditch at the same vehicle service station.

The victim was identified as 31-year-old Sreejith Jayashan, a resident of Katuneriya, Marawila.

His body was recovered yesterday, and the post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today at the Halawatha general hospital.

All suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate today.
