COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Excise Department recorded a revenue of Rs. 120.5 billion during the first six months of the year.
This marks a 102.6 percent increase, which surpasses the target set by the Ministry of Finance.
The Department states that Rs. 226.7 billion was collected last year, with earnings of Rs. 178.6 billion in 2023 and Rs. 170.3 billion in 2022.
Officials noted that the department made a significant contribution during the recently held Tax Week, introduced under the President’s “Badu Shakthi” initiative.
This included the continuous inspection of licensed liquor outlets, awareness programs for license holders and the public, as well as raids on illegal liquor production.
