Plans Unveiled for Drug Rehab Centers in Five Key Districts

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Dangerous Drugs Control Board says that there are over 300,000 drug addicts across the country.

Director General of the Board, Sujith Kothalawala, stated that plans are underway to establish four new rehabilitation centers.

Cabinet approval has been granted to set up a new rehabilitation center in Peradeniya for youth and children under the age of 21. This will be in addition to the existing facility.

New rehabilitation centers are also planned for Kurunegala, Matara, Batticaloa, and Jaffna.

The Board further stated that Rs. 200 million has been allocated through the Clean Sri Lanka program for rehabilitation and prevention initiatives, while a special allocation of Rs. 250 million has been received through the government budget.
