COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Police Commission has decided to launch an investigation into the shooting death of a youth in Andana road, Koskella of Kahawatta.
The Commission stated that the directive regarding the investigation will be conveyed to the Acting Inspector General of Police.
The investigation is to be completed within a month, and the report must be submitted to the Police Commission.
The incident occurred on the 30th of June, when an armed group claiming to be police officers arrived at a house in Andana, Koskella and abducted twin brothers and their friend using handcuffs.
Police said the elder of the twins managed to escape, while 22-year-old Iranta Suranjana was killed, and their 27-year-old friend sustained injuries.
The victims were reportedly taken in a jeep and shot at a remote area in the Koskella area.
Meanwhile, the officer in charge of the Kahawatta police station Sumitha Karunaratne has been transferred to the Jaffna Police Division following the incident.
