License Plate Backlog Hits 15,000 Vehicles Since May

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Motor Traffic has initiated a fresh procurement process to select a new company for vehicle license plate printing, according to Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Kamal Amarasinghe.

Amarasinghe stated that 15 companies have submitted proposals for consideration. A technical evaluation committee will assess samples provided by these companies to determine their suitability. The final selection is expected to be made by August.

Amarasinghe further revealed that since May 1, the disruption in license plate printing has resulted in a backlog of approximately 15,000 vehicles awaiting plates.

He also confirmed that the Inspector General of Police, all District Secretaries, and Chief Secretaries have been officially informed about the delay in license plate issuance.
