Harshana Suriyapperuma Appointed As Finance Secretary; NPP asked Nominate Replacement MP

COLOMBO (News 1st); Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma has been officially appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance. The appointment letter was handed over this morning at the Presidential Secretariat by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nanditha Sanath Kumanayake.

Dr. Suriyapperuma’s appointment follows his recent resignation from Parliament, where he served as the Deputy Minister of Finance & Planning.

His resignation was submitted to assume the new role at the Ministry of Finance.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has formally requested the National People's Power (NPP) to nominate a suitable candidate to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.

Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, confirmed that the Secretary General of Parliament had notified the commission of the vacancy. Accordingly, the NPP has been asked to submit a name for the replacement.
