COLOMBO (News 1st): President Anura Kumara Disanayake, in his Poson Day Message, highlighted that in a world where violence continues to afflict humanity on many fronts, Poson Poya Day reminds us that ‘Ahimsa’ is a timeless value that safeguards both one’s own and others' right to life and freedom. He added that it is a noble practice and a necessary path in today's world, perhaps now more than ever.
The President added that the noble Dhamma gifted to this land by Arahant Mahinda Thero teaches us the importance of seeing "what is meaningful as meaningful, and what is meaningless as meaningless."
President Disanayake affirmed that what we need today are disciplined and responsible individuals who embody this wisdom and that the noble duty entrusted to the government is to re-establish such a principled society in Sri Lanka, enabling the government to build a modern, morally grounded nation, one that embraces social harmony, ethical values and environmental responsibility.
President Anura Kumara Disanayaka emphasized on his firm believe that the social, economic and political transformation that we as Sri Lankans aspire to can only be realized through the revival of such a cultured and virtuous society.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in her Poson Day Message highlighted that according to the Buddhist heritage, Poson Poya signifies the first step in shaping a compassionate society and therefore, as a government bearing the noble responsibility of nurturing a righteous and culturally enriched citizenry, the government is deeply committed to upholding the message of non-violence and harmonious coexistence brought by Arahant Mahinda Thero, ensuring its continued relevance in the present day.
She added that at a time when the nation is preparing to embark upon a new era of revival, it is her sincere blessings that this Poson Poya serves as a sacred blessing for a prosperous and enlightened future.
