COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sirasa TV, a trailblazer in Sri Lanka’s media landscape, proudly celebrated its 27th anniversary today (10) under the theme “හදවත සිරසයි” (The Heart is Sirasa) — a tribute to its deep-rooted connection with the people of Sri Lanka.
The anniversary celebrations commenced with a series of religious observances at the historic Kuragala Raja Maha Viharaya, reflecting the channel’s enduring commitment to spiritual and cultural values. The sacred grounds hosted a special procession attended by Chevaan Daniel, Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group, Yasarath Kamalsiri, Chief Operating Officer of MTV, and other senior members of the organization.
The Sambuddha Pooja was conducted by the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Venerable Rathmalwinne Chandrajothi Thero, invoking blessings for the continued success of the channel and the well-being of its viewers. A Dana (almsgiving) ceremony followed, held in memory of the late Mr. R. Rajamahendran, former Chairman of the Capital Maharaja Group, and other departed members of the Sirasa family.
In a heartfelt address, Venerable Waturakumbure Dhammarathana Thero, Chief Sanghanayaka of the Ratnapura District, described Sirasa’s 27th year as a time of Bhaddra Yauvana—a noble youth marked by growth, responsibility, and transformation. “Sirasa has become a voice that speaks to the hearts of the Sri Lankan people,” he said, praising the channel’s humanitarian efforts such as Sirasa Sahana Yathra and its global recognition through initiatives like Gammadda.
Yasarath Kamalsiri, COO of MTV, emphasized the collective effort behind Sirasa’s journey: “Over the past 27 years, we have witnessed the unwavering support of the people and the tireless dedication of our team. It is through this unity that Sirasa has become a true channel of the people.”
In a powerful and emotional reflection, Chevaan Daniel, the Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group, acknowledged the challenges Sirasa has faced—from criticism to physical attacks—and how each obstacle was transformed into a building block. “Every stone thrown at us—we used it to build Sirasa,” he said. “Today, we celebrate a Sirasa built on the trust of the people. Our only responsibility is to them.''
As Sirasa TV steps into its 28th year, it does so with renewed purpose, unwavering resilience, and a heart that beats in rhythm with the people of Sri Lanka.
