COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Food Security has announced that steps are being taken to reduce the prices of 600 items and make them available through Sathosa outlets for the upcoming festive season.
Deputy Minister R.M. Jayawardena stated that the objective of this initiative is to protect the public from traders who sell goods at inflated prices during the festive period.
The Deputy Minister further assured that measures are in place to provide essential goods for the season without any shortages.
In tandem with the price reductions, investigations have been launched to identify traders selling goods at excessive prices in the local market.
The Deputy Minister confirmed that all officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) have been briefed and alerted to carry out these inspections.
