COLOMBO(News 1st)- Following several days of investigations conducted by officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority, a raid was carried out on a stock of 400 tons of substandard steel.
Officers, who were alerted to the fact that the steel was being transported at night from a manufacturing facility in Kahathuduwa to a warehouse in Negombo, raided the warehouse on the 6th and took the relevant stock into custody after further investigations.
According to the gazette notification issued on January 25, 2008, the SLS standard logo is mandatory for all steel bars and wires, including ribbed and plain steel bars used for concrete reinforcement. The Consumer Affairs Authority will strictly enforce the law against businessmen who violate these standards and distort fair competition.
