COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe revealed in Parliament that he faces death threats.

He made this revelation while raising a privilege question in Parliament on Thursday (16).

"At a recent press briefing, the Chief of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva said that they would come to a place the minister wants, or they would take him elsewhere. SLC managed to draw in Sudath Chandrasekera, whom I had provided with several positions. There is a recording mentioning an assault. These two statements depict a threat to myself and my family," the Minister went into detail in Parliament.

The Minister said that he filed a complaint over these events with the Criminal Investigations Department, and at the same time, requested the Speaker to look into the matter as well.

"The reason is that these people are powerful, and will use their money everywhere. I have proven that as well. They may try to discredit me by sending some money to claim that I solicited a bribe. They may even try to add drugs to my bag. Please consider the matter of security, as it is your responsibility as well," said Ranasinghe in his statement to the parliament.

Sri Lanka Police said that the security detail provided to Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has been increased.

Police Spokesperson & Attorney-At-Law SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that, as per the request made by the Sports Minister, three more personnel were added to the existing detail of seven Ministerial Security Division Officers.
