COLOMBO (News 1st) - The health department has issued an advisory asking people to follow hygienic measures during the extremely hot weather.

Dr. Renuka Jayatissa, a nutrition expert at the Medical Research Institute, has suggested that individuals should consume foods that have a cooling effect on the body, especially during this period.

Dr. Jayatissa recommends fruits such as watermelon as a good option to beat the heat. She also advises individuals to take precautions when walking or working outdoors in extreme sunlight, especially children. She stresses the importance of drinking adequate water to prevent dehydration, particularly if one is spending a lot of time outdoors.

Specialist Dr. Renuka Jayatissa has emphasized that certain risk categories should be given special consideration. This includes elderly individuals, children, pregnant women, and those working outdoors. These individuals should take extra precautions to avoid exposure to the heat and prevent any heat-related illnesses.
