Another consignment reaches Colombo Port; egg prices expected to drop

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Another consignment of 1 million eggs from India has reached the Colombo Port.

"Approval from the Department of Animal Production & Health for the consignment is pending", Chairman of the Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation Asiri Walisundara said, "Once approval is granted, the consignment will be distributed to bakeries and hotels".

The previous consignment of 2 million eggs was also distributed to bakeries and hotels.

"Cabinet approval was obtained to import 30 million eggs from India, adding that the required eggs will be imported in the future, based on demand in the local market," Walisundara said.

"Against such a backdrop, a price drop for eggs can be expected," he added.
