COLOMBO (News 1st): All Island Three-Wheeler Drivers' Association announced that Three-wheeler fares will not be increased despite an increase in petrol prices.
The price of a litre of 92 Octane Petrol was increased by Rs. 30/- with effect from midnight on Wednesday (1), and the new price is Rs. 400/-.
Lalith Dharmasekera the Chairman of the All Island Three-Wheeler Drivers' Association said that a decision was reached NOT to increase the fares.
"Whenever the price of petrol is increased or reduced it impacts the three-wheeler passenger transport service. The passengers and the three-wheelers drivers become confused over the fare. There is no regulation of three-wheelers and the fares. We are operating in such a situation," he told reporters on Thursday (2).
If passengers are unfairly charged, they can reject the fare and refuse to travel in the three-wheeler, he added.
