COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the need at the moment for the island nation is an agreement with its three main creditors – India, China, and Japan.

"We've had discussions with the IMF. We have come to a staff-level agreement. But now we have to deal with our creditors.  We did not have to do that earlier, because we did not have this serious crisis. But, now we have to deal with our creditors," said the President.

He said that Sri Lanka had started talks with China on reaching an agreement on debt, and talks would most likely be after the Chinese Communist Party Conference takes place.

What we want at the moment is an agreement between the three creditors on how they are going to give us debt relief, he stressed.
