COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe says that a majority of the country wants him to solve the crisis.

Speaking to ABC Australia's Foreign Correspondent program Ranil Wickremesinghe said "I'm the one who said the correct thing, go to the IMF. That's why there is confidence backing me. That's why there is confidence in me. That I can deliver."

He also noted that burning down government houses will not solve the crisis, adding that those who occupied the President's House or even burn his house, would never have solved the crisis in the country.

The President said that those who are being arrested are the people who broke the law.

"I'm not the one who does it. It's been left to the police, like in your country and the police have decided to charge them. Everything has been done legally," he told the Australian journalist.
