COLOMBO (News 1st); The group of SLPP MPs who became independent of their party will abstain from voting at the vote for the interim budget at the Parliament on Friday (02).

MP Prof. G.L. Peiris, speaking at a press conference, stated that the group of independent MPs take decisions in accordance with the culture of their group, and do not take any impulsive decisions without thinking them through.

Prof. Peiris, speaking on the interim budget stated that the relevant budget contains many clauses that are harmful for the country, and clauses which do not suit the economy.

However, the MP stated that they will act carefully to allow for the provisions which result from the IMF staff level agreement with the Sri Lankan Government to come into fruittion, and they will not influence the discussions in any way.

"Therefore, after taking all this into consideration, we decided to abstain from voting on the interim budget." Prof. Peiris added.
