COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa visited the Katunayaka Airport to leave the country early on Tuesday (12), however, he had to turn back due to protests by other passengers inside the airport.

A large number of passengers protested at the airport against Basil Rajapaksa's attempts to leave the country.

Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration and Emigration Officers attached to the Silk Route Operations catering to VIPs at the Katunayake Airport have stepped away from their duties.

The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration Officers Association K.A.A.S Kanugala said the trade union took this step because there is a possibility that accused former political elites will use the Silk Road clearing terminal to leave the country in large numbers.
