Medicine Teachers' urge President & PM to hand over official resignations

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Federation of Faculty of Medicine Teachers' Association (FFMTA) has called upon the President and Prime Minister to acknowledge the call of the people and step down with immediate effect having over official resignations.

In a statement, FFMTA said the purported resignation of the President on 13th July, and the resignation of the Prime Minister at an undisclosed time point only add to the country's uncertainty and instability and delay in achieving sustainable solutions to the crisis.

They also urge all Party Leaders to put aside their person agendas and party politics and unit to create a multi-party government that will act in national interests.

In doing so, FFMTA urge appointing a leadership and interim cabinet of competent members of parliament without a record of corruption.

The FFMTA appeals to the people of Sri Lanka to stand up against any attempts by any parties or persons to provoke violence.

FFMTA also emphasize not to be provoked by such acts of violence and to act in a patient and responsible manner, as you have displayed on ninth of July.

Violence would defeat the purpose of peaceful protests and throw the country further into the economic and political abyss, it added.

The Federation of Faculty of Medicine Teachers’ Association (FFMTA) urges all Sri Lankans to remain calm and act restraint during this time of crisis.
