COLOMBO (News 1st); Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abywardena has requested the Attorney General to seek the appointment up a special Trial-at-Bar to probe the recent riots, including the assassination of late Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala.

The Speaker had made the request inn a letter to the Attorney General, pointing out that the request was made as per the suggestions of the Members of Parliament.

Moreover, a number of Parliamentarians requested the Speaker to appoint a Special Trial-at-Bar during the condolence debate on the death of former MP Amarakirthi Athukorala in Parliament.
